I have three daughters two were previous Meadows pupils and my youngest is currently in upper juniors. It has been a pleasure seeing them all flourish and grow enjoying each day attending the school.
As a governor I have contributed to the continuing success of the school helping it to maintain its high standard of education, social development of the children and ensuring it is a safe and fun environment.
I am a practicing optician (optometrist) for the last 25 years working for the NHS and within private practice. This experience has enabled me to gain valuable people skills dealing with both the young and old.
Outside of work I love spending time with my family and I am an active member of the Duffield Tennis Club. I enjoy watching all sports and films if I ever get the free time!

"My name is Jane Clare and I have two children in the school. I work as a Solicitor for the County Council specialising in the legal aspects of safeguarding. This knowledge is invaluable in my role as Special Educational Needs, Safeguarding and Anti-bullying Governor. I am vice-chair of the governing body and am also on the 'Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Committee'. This committee looks both at the quality of teaching and the curriculum within the school and also at the school's position at the centre of the community. My experience of the school affirms the impression I had when I first visited; that every child matters at Meadows. As a Governor I enjoy seeing all the work which is undertaken by the staff to develop the children to their full potential and being a critical friend in this process. Outside of this role I enjoy spending time with my family and being a volunteer helper at a local Brownie group."

I am a proud Dad to a current Meadows pupil, and a doctor working with older people in the local community.  As a past governor of a large NHS Trust and chair of trustees for a mental health charity, I have experience in senior roles at organisations supporting local people.  They taught me a lot about how much the early years at school matter for children’s wellbeing throughout their lives.  I was delighted to be elected as a Parent Governor in 2019, and two years later I am still enjoying the privilege of being part of Team Meadows, learning new things all the time.  I try to bring my experience to the governing body as we oversee and support the complex business of running a school, so that the headteacher and her staff can continue to provide the fantastic, rounded and supportive education that Meadows gives our children.  As a member of the Resources Committee I have a particular interest in health & safety within school.

Outside of work I am interested in developments in green technology, especially around transport, and enjoy ambling around the countryside and trying to tame the wilderness in my garden.

I am now a co-opted Governor with ‘Team Meadows’, having started my governing journey as a parent governor.
My son is currently in the Upper Juniors at Meadows, and I have an older daughter and two step-sons who attended Meadows and then Ecclesbourne School. This has given me an insight into some of the challenges that children can face as they make their way through the education system, and helped shape my belief that a child’s experience at school should first and foremost be a safe and happy one, and that this will help them to reach their full potential.
Whilst living in Duffield, I have enjoyed being part of this strong and vibrant village community. I was involved with Guiding for many years and helped to run Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units in Duffield. This brought me into contact with children with a wide range of strengths, likes and personalities, and reinforced my appreciation of how one size does not fit all.
I work locally in the NHS and this brings me into contact with people from a wide range of backgrounds. My professional training has taught me to ask questions, not make assumptions and to try to see things from different perspectives; skills which I try to put to good use in my governor role.
